The Third Degree

We got back from our tour on Monday night with pretty bad colds that wont seem to go away. Somwthing that didnt help was me (Paul) getting the third degree at Schiphol airport

...as i innocently handed my passport to the control guys, instead of receiving it back again with an accusing nod, i couldnt help but notice the guy who was looking my passport calling over a couple of his friends and holding the page with the photo at verying angles to the light. After a few minutes of this, i got escorted to another room where a few more guys had a go at deflecting light of the picture page of my passport where it was explained to me that i dont look like my photo. this i can sympathise with, as when i got my passport picture done, i was more, well, clean cut, than i am now, but even so, its not like ive lived on a deset island for the last 5 years. After this reserve squad of picture spotters admitted defeat, myself (and Iona by this point who was allowed to follow us) were escorted into the depths of the airport by 2 customs guys who did a nice good cop bad cop routine that made the short journey fly by. Below the surface, a specialist picture recognition squad confirmed i am who i may calim to be. I have to say i found it comforting that these guys take such care over their job, which these days has assumed even more importance, but why me hungover and tired and REALLY in need of a drink at the nearest bar. Way it goes.

Our friend Matthijs van der Ven, whom we visited in the first week of our tour has put some pictures up of pur week in Holland. Heres a few of them as we sort through our pics of the trip. All these photos are by Matthijs Van der Ven
